Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake

Nanaimo Bars…Yummy

Cheesecake…AWESOME!

Put the two together and dun dun dun (very dramatic music here!)

Yummy AWESOME.  That’s right baby!

So what’s a Nanaimo Bar you ask!  Apparently I’ve just been told by my mother that it’s another Canadian thing.  It’s a chocolate cookie crust with a sweet creamy custard center covered in chocolate!  Seriously, what’s not to love????

I found this on the Kraft Canada website many moons ago and have made it every year for our annual Christmas party.  It’s always a big hit.

I halved the recipe because we aren’t having a party but it still makes a 9” by 12” pan.  Which is more than enough for this family so after a taste I sent it in to Rob’s work as a treat!  It was gone by lunch!

Recipe – adapted from KraftCanada.com

  • 2 1/2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs (I used the Oreo crisp wafers)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup flaked coconut
  • 4 pkg brick cream cheese
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp  Birds Custard Powder (this I bought at World Market b/c it’s not something the local grocery store here keeps.  In Ottawa, it is)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 4 oz bitter sweet chocolate
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Mix crumbs, coconut and butter until well blended.  Press firmly onto bottom of 13x9 inch baking pan.  Refrigerate while preparing filling.
  3. Beat cream cheese, sugar and custard powder in electric mixer.
  4. Add eggs one at a time until blended.
  5. Pour over crust.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes or until center is almost set.
  7. Cool and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
  8. Melt chocolate and combine with whipping cream.  Pour over chilled cheesecake.
  9. Place back in fridge until chocolate is set.  Decorate as you want.
  10. Enjoy!

So if you like Nanaimo bars and cheesecake, you’ll love this!  What I like about this is that it’s not as sweet as a true Nanaimo bar.

Thanks for looking!
