Kiwi Cupcakes and a New Cake Stand!

I love Home Goods store, I mean I really love this store because every time I go in, I find something really neat.  Many of the decorations in Abby’s princess room I got there and this week I found a great end table and even better, an awesome new cake stand.  I’ve never really had a nice one before and when I saw it, I thought it’s not bad, all it needed was for me to take off the crystal bits. But when I got it home and started to remove the bags covering the crystals I started to like it.

Then I put on some cupcakes to photograph and in the sunshine, it looked awesome!

On to the cupcakes.  I bought a boat load of kiwi’s and before they went bad I had to decide what to do with them.  First thought, of course, was cake but I didn’t find anything I liked and really when you aren’t giving them away, you have to bake what you like or you might as well throw it out.  And no one should do that to baked goods!

So then I just took my strawberry cupcake recipe from last week’s Tread Day Wednesday and just swapped out the strawberries for kiwis. Recipe here.

Then I used lemon buttercream and piped swirl roses onto them for a simple elegant look.

I have to say, I like the way these turned out and from the pics you can see I’ve also been playing with gum paste to make flowers.  This is my first peony and I gotta say it turned out pretty good!

Thanks for looking!
