One thing my husband likes, a lot, is BBQ. A couple years ago I bought him a small smoker and we use it all the time. We’ve made Smoked Pork Shoulder and you can see the recipe here.
I decided I wanted BBQ but without the BBQ as it’s a downpour outside.
Back in Ottawa every summer, there is a Chicken & Rib festival and each booth there’s always pulled pork sandwiches. So I went on a search and found a recipe, then I changed it and after several tries came up with this.
You will need:
- piece of pork – I’m using a pork loin
- Apple cider
- Slow cooker/crockpot
- Put 1 cup cider into bottom of slow cooker, place pork on top. Turn on for 8 hours.
- Remove pork from pot and shred.
- Serve with your favourite BBQ sauce either on a bun or just on it’s own!
This is a great meal and so easy. You know, so you can spend the other time you would have normally spent cooking, with your family!
Thanks for looking!

I haven't been to the Ottawa Rib Festival for years but did enjoy it when I went. Never made a pulled pork sandwich yet but grateful that you posted your recipe. I will try it. It does look delicious. Wondering what adding a little bit of maple syrup to the crock pot would do?
