Treat Day Wednesday–EEEEEEEK Pops!

I’m still on the Halloween band wagon and so I decided to give the treat pop another go!  I love what some people (Bakerella, Love Bites Cake Pops) can do with cake pops, I just don’t have the gift.  Also my girls find them too sweet.  They do, however, love a good marshmallow.  So I thought I’d give it another go and try again but this time with marshmallows (also saves on having to bake something).

So for treat day, I give you EEEEEEK Pops! (pronounced with a high E) ;)

What you need are large marshmallows, candy melts, coloured sugars and gourmet writers.  plus plus plus, what ever else you want!

I followed the same principle of the cake pop and inserted the lollipop stick into the candy and then inserted into the marshmallow and let harden.  Then I dipped in candy melts.  I find they don’t get thin enough to dip and pull out without losing the marshmallow, so I eventually gave that up and used a palette knife and iced each pop like a cake.  You can so tell which ones were done which way!

For the ghosts and mummy, I used left over fondant and just used water to stick to the marshmallow.  The eyes are also fondant circles.

As for the hair, I used coloured sugars or piped the colour using small parchment piping bags.

These were my favourites.

I love the way these turned out but I don’t think I’d want to make a lot of these.  I think I’ll leave the cake pop type treats to the experts!

Thanks for looking!

  1. I've only made cake pops once and they are definitely not my forté. I admire those that do a beautiful job with their dipping and their patience with creative decorating. Like your girls, I find them too sweet as well, never been a big fan of candy melts I'm afraid. Having said all that, I think what you have created here is adorable and I have to say that your favs are mine as well, especially that little mummy...makes me smile :)

  3. they look great!! saw you on craft gossip---i've heard you can add some crisco to the candy melt to thin it and it makes dipping easier---i've yet to try it...well because you need to add crisco to candy melt!
