When a good idea goes terribly wrong…eat your mistakes :)

I’d like to say that I didn’t do that, but then I’d be lying and my mother always told me to tell the truth!

I was at BJs this week and found this great little cookie book called “The Art of the Cookie” and its fantastic.  Especially for the cookies I’ve never tried before, even for those I have.  So this is where the inspiration for this cookie comes from.

I’ve always loved the thin wafer cookie that’s rolled that comes in the fancy cookie boxes but never had the guts to try them.  But here was a recipe and it seemed simple…I said it seemed!

First batch of dough created and attempted but my idea of 1/8 of an inch and their idea of said same length would be quite different.  Having to use 1/4 inch seems in quilting I thought, this is easy.  Well after they came out of the oven and I tried to roll them, they were fat rolled cookies, very unattractive.  Plus it only made 6 cookies, which was weird b/c the pics look very thin and made 24.  see!

No worries, all evidence has been eaten by myself and the girls :)  Don’t judge, you’ve all done it.

Next batch created, but this time I barely used the dough, you could see the parchment through it and well, they worked.  They aren’t as crisp (as in nice straight lines) like the one in the book, but at least this time they actually rolled!  I still think they are too thick, but I honestly don’t know how to get them much thinner.

The suggestion in the recipe is to use a metal spatula to remove them and then roll, when after butchering the first cookie, I took the whole parchment paper off the baking sheet, flipped it over and peeled off the cookies. Then I rolled and victorious!

I used black and orange accent colours…well it is fall/halloweeny after all!

These are very tasty but after eating the first batch, I’m taking it a little slower on the second.  No worries, they were given to a nice home, our babysitter Alyssa, whom I assumed shared them with her sorority sisters.

So if ever you find yourself in this position of a major oops, no worries, just eat your mistakes.

And then go for a very long run :)

Thanks for looking!

ps, the little candy corn dish I found in the dollar bins at Target!  love it :)

  1. I love the rolled wafer cookies too, especially the ones with the chocolate hazelnut! The fact that you even attempted these has me saying *WOW* and the end results are something you should be very proud of. Love the colours and that candy corn bowl...I can see tons of people running to Target looking for one now :)

  4. Oooh, these are impressive! I have seen recipes to make them before and I've always been to intimidated. But yours look adorable! And I do admit I often eat the evidence of my baking mishaps... unless they are too gross ;) Haha!
