Treat Day Wednesday–Melted Snowmen

IMGP8517

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…NOT

I miss the cold and I miss the snow.  I know you think I’m crazy but I miss it.  When we were in Lake Tahoe in the summer at the summit at Squaw Valley, we got to play in the snow but it wasn’t the same.  It seems wrong to be playing in the snow whilst wearing sandels and shorts,  When we visited Ontario over American Thanksgiving we saw a bit of snow but again there wasn’t enough.  Even the girls miss it too!  Rob has become southern, so he doesn’t :)

There is something about snow.  Especially after it has just fallen and covered everything in a beautiful blanket.  You see, these are the memories I love, not the shoveling out, the 8 foot snow bank on the side of the driveway, the 2 hour trek to work when 6-8 inches has fallen over night, the freezing cold temperatures that go along with the constant snow or the dreariness that occurs after 4 months of it.

Here, we might get snow once or twice over the winter.  When it does snow here, it’s very comical.  Get yourself to the store and stock up on bread and milk.  I’m not sure why, but when a few fellow Canadian’s mentioned it I noticed that when it snowed (like an inch) the grocery store was low on bread and milk.  It makes me laugh.  We weren’t here three weeks last December when there was a forecast for an inch.  The schools closed and even the Target wasn’t opening until noon.  It’s CRAZY!  In Ottawa, the bus might be cancelled after 6 inches have fallen, but be rest assured the schools were open.

This is the amount of snow last year that closed the school.

Since we won’t be heading north for Christmas but south, we will again not have a white Christmas.  So these treats are to help with the lack of the white stuff…at least in a fun way!

At Monday night’s cookie swap one of the cookies was of a melted snowman, so that was my inspiration.  I also remember Kristan from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen’s melted witches from Halloween, so I thought I would combine the two.

To make them take white chocolate and melt!

  • Un parchment, spread out into circles that look melty
  • I used licorice All-sorts for the hat.  Take a small slice off a nib and roll out to make a larger flatter circle.  Attach the other part of the nib with some white chocolate to complete the hat.
  • For the buttons and eyes, dice up a slice of nib to smaller pieces.
  • Use orange icing for the carrot nose.
  • Let set and enjoy!

These were easy and a lot of fun to make.  There really is an endless supply of melted “whatevers” out there!

Happy Holidays and Thanks for looking!

  1. These are adorable! I know what you mean (well, not about snow, I've never lived anywhere that snows) but when we lived in AZ they didn't even have seasons. It was such a shock to my system to wear shorts on Christmas. :)

  5. It's still green here! We may even have a green Christmas, which is great for those travelling but not for anyyone who is getting skiis, snowmobiles and snowblowers for Christmas. LOL Love your melted snowmen. I'll send you a picture if we beat the 12" you saw last in Ottawa.
