Sometimes I come up with the treats myself and sometimes I just have to ask, today was one of those days. Last week’s fudge was a bigger hit than I thought it was going to be. It didn’t actually make it out of the house because Abby ate most of it. Yes the 43lb 6 year old ate 80% of that block of fudge :) I wish I could eat like that and still be a stick.
Ah well, today I asked and it was a resounding brownies. Now I’ve made brownies a few times for the blog, so I wanted to try something new. I pulled out the Southern Living Best Recipes for 2012 again and used their brownie recipe. Let’s just say, the sample Rob and I tried last night got two thumbs up, but will the kids like it. Only time will tell.
Recipe: (adapted slightly)
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (I used Ghirardelli)
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup AP Flour
- 1 8oz pkg cream cheese
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Place butter and chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and heat on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove and stir until completely combined.
- Add sugar and eggs until well blended and then add the flour.
- In another bowl, mix the softened cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla until combined.
- Preheat oven to 325 F
- In a 9x14 inch prepared pan spread half the brownie mixture.
- Dollop the cream cheese mixture over brownie batter in pan.
- Dollop remaining brownie mixture.
- Shake pan to settle the mixtures and then use a knife and run it through the two batters to get a marbled effect. Don’t mix too much or it will over combine. You want bits of each.
- Bake for 35 minutes and remove.
- Cool completely on wire rack before cutting into it. We didn’t want to wait, so we did and it was very hard to get out :) But oooooh sooooo tasty!
Not sure this recipe will replace my brownie recipe, but I will definitely make this again!
Thanks for looking!
Sorry the pics are so bad, but it’s been raining for 3 days and I’m a crappy photographer without sunlight :)

I'm seeing a lot of brownie recipes with cream cheese but this is the first with the marbled effect. They certainly look moist and chewy and I'm betting that the girls will love them (now that the fudge is all gone LOL)
ReplyDeletethese look great - I love me a good dense brownie!
