Guest Post–GOING BATTY WITH THE BEARFOOT BAKER

OMG I’m jumping up and down today because I’m so excited.  Lisa is here!  You know Lisa don’t you?  She’s the awesome person behind The Bearfoot Baker.  Another awesome new friend from the blogosphere who has been so supportive and inspiring!  As you will see below, she has a great sense of humour and her cookies do too!

Hi! My name is Lisa and I am The Bearfoot Baker. I am so happy to be here today! When Karen asked me to do a guest post, I was thrilled. I started blogging in December of last year. I was a little nervous that I would be talking to myself but, Karen always came by to make me feel special. That is the best part of blogging for me. Meeting people like Karen. She is such a sweet loving person and I can feel her warmth and kindness every time I come in contact with her. I thought it would be nice to make cookies that hold a special memory for me while doing a guest post for a special friend!

Every Fall I get this memory of my kids singing along to a Sesame Street song of the Count Doing the Batty Bat. It is a counting song and it will get stuck in your head. When the stores start stocking their shelves with Halloween stuff and I see bats, I think back to my kiddos counting "1,2,3 Doing the Batty Bat!" The bats are really cute and they had big eyes and sparkly wings. So guess what we are making today? Yes Batty Bats for the Count on Sesame Street!

I always liked those little bats that counted with the Count. Good thing I did because my kids played that tape 20 times a day! LOL Supplies: Blue Outline Icing Black Flood Icing Rainbow Disco Dust Royal Icing Eyes (made a few days in advance)

I got this cute bat cutter this year at Joann's but, this tutorial will work with almost any bat cutter. Begin by outlining your bat with blue icing.

While the blue is wet, sprinkle with Disco Dust over a piece of parchment paper. The funny thing about Disco Dust is it sticks very well. Once you sprinkle the bat, you will need to dust it off the cookie without messing up the blue lines. I used a small paintbrush to dust it off. You wont be able to get it all off so don't stress. Just save as much as you can.

Flood the sections with the black icing. Be careful not to over fill them or you could lose the blue lines. While the black is wet, drop on the royal icing eyes (tutorial here) and sprinkle with Disco Dust.

 

I had a lot of fun making these. I wanted to link to the Count but, be warned it will get stuck in your head!! The Count doing the Batty Bat

  4. Cute cookies, but disco dust is NOT EDIBLE. It's plastic craft glitter and is not for use on food. In order for the cookie to be edible, edible glitter made from gum arabic, sanding sugar, or gelatin should be used.
