Treat Day Wednesday–Mummies on a Stick

IMGP0839

I guess the Halloween bug has finally hit me.  I find myself going through the decorating rows at every store and thinking if I just wait a little longer it’ll be on sale but every now and again I grab something.  Yesterday I scored some cute things in the dollar section at Target and the two lamps in my spooky carriage cookie pictures I got at Home Goods.  OOOOO and I also bought a witch hat for $2 bucks!  Yup, I’ll be wearing the hat while I give out candies.

Actually that’s my biggest dilemma.  What candies to buy?  What’s your favourite?  I love the tootsie rolls and last year but the big bag but now we still have some left.  Maybe this year I’ll go the day off and buy the smallest bag they have left.  Our neighbourhood is only 32 houses and not very many bigger kids.  Now last year it rained so we didn’t get any out of neighbourhood kids either.  I just don’t know.

But what I do know is that the kids love rice krispie treats and fondant.  Every time I use my fondant on anything I get two little faces looking up and begging for “dough”.  So they usually get a scrap or two, but only after I’m done.  It’s my little bit of evil coming through, as I watch them wait and the anticipation just kills them :)

Today is also a teacher vacation day because you know they need a vacation not quite a month into the school year.  I’m sorry, it’s just so stupid, but alas it is what it is. So Abby, Alana (next door neighbour) and I made these.

Here’s what you need:

  • Pre-made or make your own rectangle Rice Krispie Treats
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Royal Icing
  • Fondant
  1. Dip lollipop sticks into royal icing and then insert into the RKT
  2. Let dry, about 5 minutes or through them into the fridge for a faster dry.
  3. Cut strips of fondant and wrap like a mummy.
  4. Add some eyes, noses, hair and voila!

This was too much fun, the girls had an absolute blast and ate them as fast as they can.  I have now sent them all outside to burn off all the sugar :)

Thanks for looking!

  1. Now this is a wonderful way to entertain the kids during the teacher's vacation day! The girls created some cute little mummies and working with *mum* I'm sure everyone had a hoot of a time.
