Treat Day Wednesday–Jell-O Ice Cubes

I know what you are thinking, not Jell-O again.  But what can I say, if you’ve got a treat that works, go with it.

I saw coloured ice cubes, the plastic ones, at the store and I thought that I could do those at home.  So I made up some Jell-O and instead of chilling, I froze.

Another not-so-big deal but think of the possibilities in colour combinations plus the kids love them!

Now I kicked it up a notch and served them with Sprite Zero for Abby.  She thinks she’s getting a sugary soda mid-week (it never happens not even on the weekends but she thinks they are full of sugar, shhhh don’t tell her) with some super fun ice cubes and it looks so cool!  Rowan just ate hers straight up in a bowl :)

Sorry I’m not very wordy today.  I’m having lots of pain in my back again and I’m also a little preoccupied because tomorrow I’m getting another epidural shot, so my thoughts are elsewhere.  I do hope you’ll forgive me.  I’ll be back with more ramblings next week. 

I do think these would be great for a kids party or even a big kids party.

Treat Day Wednesday–Sunshine in a Glass!

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all had a great holiday and are ready to take 2013 on.  I know I am.  After a month away from the blog, countless guests, an over abundance of food and drink and time with family, I’m ready to get back to it.

I decided to start slow and go with a fan favourite.  Jell-O

Ok, not just plain old Jell-O.  I wanted to make it a little special for the first day back at school and since it’s rained for a week, I made them sunshine in a glass.

The pictures don’t do it justice, it is truly bright and sunny!  At least the Jell-O is :).  I painted some yellow and orange Americolor gels inside the piping back to get the colour on the whipped cream.

I again hope you have an amazing start to 2013 and may your days be cheery and bright and full of treats!

Treat Day Wednesday– J E L L O Cookies

Hi there!  It’s been a week since I’ve been around and as you may know I was in Salt Lake City at CookieCon.  Yup, 200 cookiers from around the world converged on this beautiful city to talk cookies.  It was fantastic!

So you can guess that with all this new inspiration in my head I needed to make cookies except it’s Treat Day and the girls wanted something Jello.  I had seen on Pinterest these lovely cookies at I Heart Nap Time and new I had to try them.

Now the lazy in me just used my sugar cookie dough that I had chilling in the fridge.  I used just have a batch and then I halved that.  Each quarter got two tablespoons of jello powder.  I also added some blue Americolor to the berry cookie as it turned greenish and I wanted the colour to be what the colour was on the box.

I have admitted that I don’t like Jello.  Texture is a big thing for me.  Now texture isn’t a problem here however I do find them a bit sweet so they aren’t for me but they are for the girls and I quote Abby, “these are the bomb”.  AH from the mouths of a seven year old!

Now that I’m back into the swing of things and full of CookieCon inspiration, I’ll have lots of cookies for you. As for these cookies, any kids would love them and they get to choose what flavour they like!  I hope you enjoy!

Treat Day Wednesday– More Jell-O fun

Treat Day Wednesday – Jello Fun

Ok, this is what I wanted to do…

and then I tried it. They ain’t as easy as I was lead to believe (really it was just me thinking it was easy and then I cut the oranges in the wrong direction…oops!)  Jell-O went everywhere and so a quick change of thought had to be made and I came up with these.   But aren’t those slices totally cool, I will attempt another day.

These are slightly more Christmassy! My mother gave me this pan last year and have yet to use it until now!  They turned out pretty cool. It’s the Wilton shaped cookie pan. I’m fairly sure they didn’t think Jell-O jigglers when they made this pan LOL.

Then I had some left over and used a mini muffin pan and made these…

To make super fast setting jigglers, use one small box of Jell-O mix with 2/3 cups boiling water.  Mix completely, making sure all sugar is dissolved and transfer to molds.  These were firm within a half hour.
