Treat Day Wednesday–Frozen Sugar Cookies

allfrozen

Happy Treat Day everyone, sorry I missed last weeks edition but the girls got their treats, I just didn’t have time to post about it.  They also weren’t very exciting either.  Nilla wafers sandwiches with chocolate ganache.  Simple and delicious.

Now this week I had to make up for it.

Have you seen Frozen yet?  We saw it twice in the theater and then got an advanced copy of it and have watched it about 10 times in 5 days.  Even I know all the words now.  It truly is a fabulous movie and stands up to my favourite, the Lion King.

The music is so well done and they inspired me to make cookies.  I tried to make Sven the reindeer but alas, he was just too hard but I think the rest of them turned out ok.

Happy Birthday Mario and Santino! Batman and Spiderman Cookies

My awesome friend Isabelle has two little boys that could not be more different and yet similar at the same time.  They are boys, so they love all things super hero!  But while Santino is a little bruiser, Mario is not.  Two of the cutest boys I know!

Now they live in Ottawa so we couldn’t pop up for their birthday party.  Isabelle asked what she could do for their cupcake toppers and I immediately offered up cookies.  Since their birthday’s are about a month apart, Isabelle decided to do a joint party.  Super Hero’s were the theme and more specifically Batman and Spiderman.  Here’s what I made!  and they even arrived in tact!

The faces!

I wanted to make a plaque cookie and wish them a Happy Birthday but I couldn’t pick just one hero, so I did both!

Looney Tunes Cookies

When I was a kid my most favourite Saturday morning cartoons were the Looney Tunes.  I’m not sure who my favourite was.  I think it was a tie between Marvin the Martian and Sylvester.  So when my friend asked if I would make a co-worker of hers some baby shower cookies centering around The Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes, I was super excited.

So without further ado…

The Avengers

marvel

Ok, I’m a geek, Star Trek, Star Wars but only new to the Avengers.  It started with Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal of Iron Man and I loved it!  Next up was Chris Evans (who you all know I kind of have a crush on) as Captain America.  Now I haven’t seen Thor but Chris Hemsworth was in Star Trek so he’s aces for me and I love Mark Ruffulo (13 Going on 30, huh? huh?).  Last but not least is Jeremy Renner, I mean really what’s not to love and if you’ve never seen The Hurt Locker, stop and go rent.  It’s amazing!

menofavengers

Ok, so maybe not so much a comic book geek but more about the hot men in this movie.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Scarlett Johansson too because she can kick some serious ass, but come on, the men? drool, sigh…composure.

I also love a flawed hero and well, they kind of all fit that bill too!

With some left over cookie dough, I made these to celebrate the release of the Avengers movie this weekend.

I can’t wait to see the men movie ;)

Happy Birthday Eamonn–Hero Factory Cookies

IMGP9720

Another year and as expected another birthday for my nephew, Eamonn.  Where does the year go???

Last year I made Star Wars and Harry Potter cookies.  They were the first “fancy” cookies I had ever made.  I’ve come along way in a year :)

When asked what the theme of the party was going to be this year, Lego Hero Factory was the answer.  WTF???  Having two girls I knew not of these boy toys.  Google is my friend, yes it is!

And this is what I found:

jawblade

splitface

witchdoctor

As you can see by these photos there are lots and lots of details.  I had every intention of colouring them in but once I outlined them in black, I decided they looked pretty cool and left them.

IMGP9719

As you can see, I also made the Hero Factory Logo.  I got a call from my sister and Eamonn could name all the cookies and was super excited.   Nothing better than a 6 year old’s seal of approval.  Can I get a whoop whoop?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EAMONN!

Phineas & Ferb Cookies

logo

I made these cookies for a birthday as the party give away.  As you know I appreciate those who want to give away a sweet treat instead of the junk that is usually found in the typical loot bag.  Yup I’m anti loot bag.

When asked if I could make more of my favourite characters, I was jazzed to try using my KopyKake machine this time.  And they look pretty good if I do say so myself!

Happy Perry-The-Platypus Day

What you say????  Well then you don’t watch the Disney Channel 24-7 like we do in our house :)

Perry

Perry is the most awesome spy.  I mean look out James Bond and that’s saying a lot with a last name like Bond LOL.

Last summer I made the entire Phineas and Ferb gang for the release of their movie:

These were royal transfers, you know before my awesome Christmas prezzie of my Kopy Kake!  This year I just painted Perry.  Still practicing that technique.

So Happy Platypus Day!

Phineas & Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension!

Phineas-And-Ferb

Since we moved to Raleigh we have had the pleasure of watching the Disney channel and all it’s numerous shows. Back in Ottawa it was an extra so we never had it but had all the movies. I’m so the Disney Kid, even though I’m now 40 :)

When I ran my marathon at Disney World in January, several of the characters were out to cheer on us crazy runners.  As we ran through the back park on Disney Hollywood Studios we ran past two very strange characters.  One Phineas and one Ferb!  It’s not very often you see a character with a triangle shaped head.

Once we got settled and into the new shows of Disney we were introduced to the show Phineas and Ferb and what these two boys do on summer vacation. It’s a riot and a half, politically incorrect enough for the parents watching and tells of the adventures of two kids and their secret agent platypus, Perry.  I’m not sure why, but I just love this cartoon.  Maybe it’s because Phineas’s head is a triangle, or that Ferb doesn’t speak much but when he does it’s hilarious.  I love Candace’s passion for busting her brothers and her love for Jeremy who’s clueless.  But most of all I love the three friends who help out.  Isabella, Baljeet and Buford are awesome!  So with this weekend’s release of their movie, Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension I had to make cookies of course!  I think I was more excited than the girls.  I’m a spaz, I know!

Now they premiered it on Friday night at 8pm, so we had to record it as it’s a little late for the kids.  We all got up Saturday morning and watched it and were not disappointed. So I thought I’d pay homage to this fun little quirky cartoon with cookies.

I hope you like them!

I also tried a new royal icing.  IT ROCKS!!!  I used Bridget’s from Bake at 350. No bleeding whoop whoop!

Since I’m not the greatest drawer I decided to used icing transfers, where I traced the characters onto wax paper and then let them dry and then put them onto the cookie.

Who’s this Harry Potter???

So tomorrow the final chapter of the most amazing story comes to an end.  I’m sure you’ve heard of this young wizard named Harry and if not, what rock have you been living under?  I’m not sure who’s more excited.  The legions of youngsters for whom the books were written or the mother’s of said youngsters.  Just reading all the twitter feeds and blogs that have been dedicated to this upcoming event would indicate the latter.  I would be included in this group for sure.

I think the movies have been playing non-stop on ABC Family for the last few weeks and sure enough as I flip through I can’t go past the channel.  We introduced the first movie to Abby and Rowan about 3 weeks ago because of all the commercials for the new one kept coming on.  They would announce each time they wanted to go but I felt they should probably see the first before they see the last and maybe the 7 other movies too.  Don’t panic, I won’t let them watch past the 3rd one, as they are a bit dark.  But I have to say, they loved it!  It’s funny because in Canada and pretty much every where else in the world, the first movie is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but here in the US it’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  I’m not entirely sure why but there you go.  So when they here Sorcerer’s Stone they correct whoever said it, it’s very cute especially coming from Rowan who’s 3 :)

I loved reading the books.  I would get up first thing on the days they were released and run to the store to get them. I would do nothing else until I had read every page.  Nope I’m not a nutter who went to the mid-night release or dressed up.  I also loved watching the movies and following the young stars as they grew as their characters did.  They did an amazing job on these movies.

Recently I saw this video where the stars said in one word what the movies were to them. It’s amazing.

wow!

Now I’d like to take you on a tour of some amazing Harry Potter treats!  There are so many, these are but just a few!

Happy Birthday Eamonn – Harry Potter and Star Wars Cookies

photo

My nephew is the biggest cutie petutey on the planet and it saddens me that we live even farther away than we did in Ottawa. And this year he turns the big number 5!!! When I asked what he wanted for his birthday, my sister said cookies (as a joke I think) but anything Harry Potter, Star Wars or Angry Birds. So of course I obliged for cookies, except I don’t know anything about Angry Birds (yes I live under a rock and no, I don’t have an iPhone). As Star Wars is my favourite movie and Harry Potter closely follows, it was an easy decision. What was hard was how I was going to do it.

My cookie decorating is in it’s youth, so I looked to my cookie guru’s at Sweetopia, Sweet Sugar Belle and Bakeat350. I had seen and, of course can’t find again, a website that piped the icing onto parchment and then placed them onto the cookies. So I found some fun cartoony characters of Harry, Ron and Hermione as well as Luke, Lea, C3P0, Darth and R2D2. It took several hours to pipe out, using parchment piping bags due to the size of the details and then dry.

Harry Potter cookies were up first. First was to outline the characters. I wanted to make sure the black was done first as it tends to bleed if it’s not completely dry.

IMGP6748

I then added the colour once the black was dry. This was painstaking, my back was not so happy about this but they turned out awesome!!!

IMGP6759

Next up were the Star Wars cookies.

IMGP6755

Then added the detail and to the cookie and voila!

IMGP6766

Next time I’ll attempt to pipe right onto the cookies, the decals were very fragile and several didn’t make it!

This was a lot of fun as these were my first really detailed cookies. It also proved to myself that yes I can do it! Feeling pretty pumped about these cookies and praying they make it unharmed when I ship them north. I know Eamonn with love them! I hope he likes his prezzies too!
